WELCOME TO THE APRIL ALUMNI E-BULLETIN This month we have several notices for you including the results of the General Council Assessors to the University Court election, as well as the result of the Students' Association elections. We also share with you the University's plans to undertake a review of its curriculum and invite you to submit your comments. If you have any questions about this month's e-bulletin or wish to provide feedback, please email f.bain@abdn.ac.uk. The Alumni Relations team is always delighted to hear from you.
NEWS FROM THE STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION This month's update comes from Shannon Tubby, SA Events and Fundraising Coordinator, in the absence of Student President, Angela Fraser, who is currently overseas. The end of March was a hectic time around campus as it marked our Student Elections for the incoming Executive for 2008/2009. If any of you had a chance to wander around campus you would have seen a number of posters, flyers and banners or were probably handed some sweeties, juice or even a flower by some of the hopeful candidates wanting to catch your attention for a moment! August 1st, 2008 marks the official date for the incoming Executive when they will all start to put their manifesto promises into action and make further positive changes for students at the University. To see the list of those individuals coming into the office for the next academic year, click here. Angela mentioned previously that this year's Student Show is called Date Expectations. Tickets have been selling at a ridiculous pace and most nights are nearly sold out already. If you have not bought your tickets yet, click here. We hope you will enjoy the Show! Please remember that Angela would be delighted to answer any questions you might have about the Students' Association so feel free to email her any time at sapresident@abdn.ac.uk. | BOOK OF THE MONTH Another year, another WORD festival and once again we have a fantastic line-up and an even more varied programme of events. Included in this year's line-up is the latest tartan noir sensation, Stuart MacBride. Stuart will be launching his latest book 'Flesh House' on Friday, 9 May at 4.15pm. To book tickets to see Stuart MacBride or to view the full WORD 2008 programme, click here. To read more about 'Flesh House', and to discuss the book with other readers, click here. |

CURRICULAR REFORM As you may have seen in recent press reports, the University is currently undertaking a wide-ranging review of its curriculum. The purpose of the review is to further enhance our curriculum content and to develop an even more distinctive and attractive educational experience. Universities operate in an increasingly competitive, international environment for higher education and this review follows similar exercises carried out at, for example, Melbourne, Harvard and Hong Kong universities. Ultimately we want to optimise Aberdeen's attractiveness to students and the attractiveness of its graduates to employers. We would very much like to receive input from our alumni to the Review and attach a set of broad questions which may be helpful in framing a submission. But we stress that these are provided as a guide only and you should not feel constrained by them. Please click here to view the questions. If you wish to do so, we would be delighted to receive a submission from you by 30 May 2008. This submission should ideally be made by email to cref@abdn.ac.uk but can also be made by post to Dr Stephen Hill, Curriculum Reform Project, Powis Gate, University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, AB24 3UG. Thank you in advance for your feedback.
