Curricular Reform Project
Further background information about the University's Curricular Review Project is available at www.abdn.ac.uk/cref. Your feedback on the Project is welcomed and below are some guiding questions. These issues are only suggestions to frame a submission. You should feel free to ignore any or all of them and to include any comments that you feel appropriate. We would be delighted to receive a submission from you by 30 May 2008. This submission should ideally be made by email to cref@abdn.ac.uk but can also be made by post to Dr Stephen Hill, Curriculum Reform Project, Powis Gate, University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, AB24 3UG. Thank you. What are the key attributes (skills, competencies and qualities) that you expect in a University graduate? Are there any ways in which graduates have failed to meet your expectations? Do you consider the opportunity to study more than one subject, during years one and two at university, to be useful? If yes, how important is this and for what reasons? Do you consider the opportunity to study more than one subject, throughout a degree programme, to be useful? If yes, how important is this and for what reasons? Do you consider the flexibility to change the intended degree subject during years one and two to be useful? If yes, how important is this and for what reasons? Do you consider a breadth of knowledge, understanding and skills beyond a chosen subject to be valuable? Which transferable skills (such as writing, numeracy, oral communication, problem-solving, team-working and so on) do you consider most important? In what ways should universities prepare graduates for employment? Should this be a primary objective for them? In what ways should universities prepare graduates for citizenship and for personal development? Do you consider the opportunity to leave university (with a pre-degree qualification) with the option subsequently to re-enter and resume study (such as after a period of employment) to be useful?
