Each member brings a wealth of experience and expertise to ensure that the University’s fundraising campaign continues to grow. | UPDATE FROM THE STUDENT PRESIDENT, DUNCAN MACKAY Here at AUSA we have been very busy over the last few weeks – from Class Reps training to the re-launch of the Equal Opportunities Committee to press coverage for the Torcher Parade it feels like we never have a moment’s rest! We recently had our inaugural Culture Week on campus which we ran celebrating the diverse groups of students we have here at the University. With over 120 nationalities on campus, international students make up around a fifth of the student population. My personal highlight of the week was the Food Day held in Elphinstone Hall where dishes from around the world were shared, giving students an opportunity to learn about the countries where these foods come from. I would have never imagined at the start of the year I would be sampling horse’s tongue courtesy of the Kazak Society! Unfortunately, we were defeated in the annual Boat Race against RGU but this has made the rest of the sports clubs even more determined to triumph in the Granite City Challenge against our counterparts on 18th March. This month also saw our Annual General Meeting – the Arts Lecture Theatre was close to capacity with well-fed students (with free pies and soft drinks for attendees) who came together to debate some interesting issues as to the direction of AUSA, including a fiery debate on the conflict in the Middle East. |
