UPDATE FROM THE STUDENT PRESIDENT, DUNCAN MACKAY Hello Alumni, I hope this e-bulletin finds you in good health. At AUSA we are busy as ever, this month sees a new intake of predominately international students coming for a term or for the start of their postgraduate courses which is why we are having a Refreshers’ Week to give the new students an opportunity to join our multitude of societies and sports club as well as existing students. Aside from that, we are launching Culture Week for the first time this year. It is an opportunity for students to demonstrate and also learn about their individual culture as well as those we share in the university community. Another dimension of Culture Week is to highlight the rich tapestry of artistic talent of the students here at Aberdeen. Aside from that, we have many annual events taking place, including the Sports Union Blues Ball and the annual boat race, which is always an enjoyable day by the River Dee. If you are around the Aberdeen area on Saturday February 28th I would heartily recommend a visit. On the business side of AUSA, we are busily preparing ourselves for the Annual General Meeting, of which I will hope to report on in my next bulletin. | LETTER FROM SANDY McKINNON, VP CHARITIES Dear Alumni, I write this letter to you today to give you an update on all things concerning the Students’ Charities Campaign. While you were at University you were likely involved in the Torcher Parade, Student Show or some other money raising mission. We’ve finally modified the method in which we can accept donations from the public and people like yourselves and gone online with a Justgiving Account, www.justgiving.com/ascc. Please bookmark the link and think of us.This year we’ve got a new Angus the Bull mascot built this year as our old mascot suffered from a terrible case of asbestos. Our brand new, and very heavy, mascot came just on time for the new Rector to the University, Stephen Robertson from Scotland the What? to be carried on during his installation to the University. The script for the Student Show ‘Dial ‘M’ for Mastrick’ is complete and tickets are on sale now from www.boxofficeaberdeen.com. The Torcher Parade preparations are in full swing and we’re in the process of writing to all the lorry and timber companies asking for their support. We’re still trying to get a sponsor for this event and figure out where to dismantle the decorated lorries after the parade so if you have any suggestions please e-mail us at charities@abdn.ac.uk or call on 01224 272965. From all of us on the Charities Committee, we hope you have a fantastic 2009! Sandy Mckinnon,VP Charities 2008/2009 |
