UPDATE FROM THE NEW STUDENT PRESIDENT, DUNCAN MACKAY Greetings to the Alumni once more from all us at the Students’ Association here in the Hub. Whilst the climate in the past month in Aberdeen has been far from ideal, our preparations for the beginning of the academic year are shaping up rather well. You could say we as new sabbaticals are ‘weathering’ it rather well! In just less than a month over 3,000 new students will descend on Aberdeen for the beginning of a new stage in their lives. The 2008/09 Freshers’ Week is shaping up to be the most exciting in recent memory – we’ve expanded our Freshers’ Film Festival, are looking at sold-out Freshers’ Fayres, and we are running more events than ever, both day and night. There has also been a concerted effort to put on events that are not traditional ‘freshers’ events’ for those who do not drink or are under 18, so they can attend and still have fun and make new friends. Once again I’d like to extend the invitation for you as alumni to get in contact with us here at the Students’ Association with comments, queries or just general pondering – we’d love to hear from you. I can be contacted by email at sapresident@abdn.ac.uk | UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN ALUMNI GATHER IN HONG KONG FOR THEIR AGM The University of Aberdeen Hong Kong Association (AUHKA) held its annual AGM on 13 July. Past MSc Environmental Scholarship recipients and friends of the University gathered at Hong Kong Football Club to elect new office bearers. The generous donors of the Granite Pearl Scholarship, Jean and Sandy Hamilton, attended the AGM and the dinner which followed. The Committee will plan various activities to strengthen the links between Hong Kong alumni and the University, while also trying to recruit new members. If you would like to become a member of AUHKA please contact f.bain@abdn.ac.uk for more information. |
