UPDATE FROM THE NEW STUDENT PRESIDENT, DUNCAN MACKAY It is with great pleasure and delight that I take over the monthly e-bulletin from Angela. I became a member of the University’s illustrious alumni community on 1st July and was fortunate enough to begin my sabbatical training the very next day. While our students are sunning themselves, working hard or becoming involved in adventures all over the world, the Students’ Association has yet to let up as we are busy with a multitude of differing activities – from the on-going Students’ Union Evaluation Initiative (SUEI) to sabbatical handovers and preparations for the 2008/09 Freshers’ Week. There are a number of new issues which the SA will be addressing this year, hopefully with much success, of which we will keep you informed. In addition, there remain larger on-going issues on which we will continue to campaign locally and nationally. I must extend my deep thanks to the current sabbatical team from who we are taking over. They truly are remarkable people and our new team is hoping to emulate their work. Personally I am privileged to be taking over from Angela, who has left me with some pretty big shoes to fill. The SA treasures its relationship with its alumni and long may this continue. If you wish to get in contact with myself or my fellow sabbaticals about anything related to the SA and its members please do not hesitate to do so. How you can help us Alumni Relations is planning to launch a career mentoring scheme for students and recent alumni. We would like you to become involved in this scheme by submitting a career profile or becoming a mentor to younger students or graduates. If you would like to become a mentor you will be asked to submit a career profile and be willing to give one-on-one advice to students and alumni from time to time. If you would like to hear more information about this scheme or to volunteer, email h.veitch@abdn.ac.uk |
