FEATURE STORY: POSTGRAD OPEN DAY, WED 14 NOVEMBER | The University will be hosting its first ever Postgraduate Open day on Wednesday 14th November from 1pm-7pm at Elphinstone Hall. Postgraduate study can greatly enhance a person’s professional qualifications, and can provide an excellent platform for career development. We offer over 110 taught masters programmes as well as an extensive range of research degrees and CPD opportunities. The event will provide visitors with the chance to talk to academic and support staff about postgraduate opportunities at the University. We are delighted to announce that Aberdeen alumni can now receive a 20% reduction in Postgraduate fees for one year. More information on this will be available on the alumni website soon. MESSAGE FROM THE STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT, ANGELA FRASER I would like to begin by telling you about our wonderful student newspaper; the Gaudie. Last month the SA was awarded a grant from the Alumni Annual Fund in support of the Gaudie and Aberdeen Student Radio. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the AAF, and to thank all of you who have donated, and continue to donate, to the Fund. The grant is particularly good news for the Gaudie, which was in the greatest financial hardship. Earlier this year we were forced to cut the number of issues from 27 to 25 but now that the newspaper is secure for another year we can enhance it further by going to full colour! Looking to the future, the SA and the Alumni Relations Office are discussing the possibility of introducing alumni subscriptions to the Gaudie so you can keep abreast of all that’s happening on campus from the student perspective! In order to gauge interest in this and other opportunities we have compiled a short survey and would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to share your views. Take me to the survey. | BOOK OF THE MONTH Each month we will highlight a book that has links to the University. You will be able to discuss the book with other readers in our discussion forum through the secure Alumni Online Community. This month we are featuring Alice Thiele Smith's, The Children of the Manse. It is a fascinating account of the upbringing of William Robertson Smith and his brothers and sisters at Keig, near Alford. It is an edited version of the original memoirs of Smith's sister, Alice. Thank you to Gordon Booth for making this suggestion! If you would like to recommend a book for this feature please get in touch! Read more ... |
