MESSAGE FROM THE STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT, ANGELA FRASER

I am looking forward to using this e-bulletin to keep former students informed of what the Students' Association is undertaking to develop the student experience. Our first exciting piece of news is that Aberdeen Student Radio (ASR) launches on 24 September after a nine year absence. I am sure that many of you will have very fond memories of the old radio station “Slick FM” and if you have any interesting stories about the old station we would love to hear them. You will be able to listen at www.abdn.ac.uk/asr.

By the end of this year we will no longer have a Union bar on Littlejohn Street.  It will be my job during the year to persuade the University that students in Aberdeen need and deserve a bar. We would love it if anyone who was a former member of the UMC or who has a background in the bar trade/entertainments business would like to help us out with advice on how we could make a Union bar work. To contact me about any of these issues please email sapresident@abdn.ac.uk.  I will look forward to hearing from you.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Book of the Month is an exciting new feature that we hope you will participate in. Each month we will highlight a book that has links to the University.  It could be that the author is a graduate, the University features in the story or some other link.  You will be able to discuss the book with other readers in our discussion forum through the secure Alumni Online Community.

This month we are talking about Adriana Trigiani's book, Home to Big Stone Gap. A chapter of the book focuses on Aberdeen and King's College. Read more ...

Adriana visited Campus as part of the Word series. To hear her talk about her work watch the recording by clicking here.

FORTHCOMING ALUMNI EVENTS

There is also a reunion planned at the Foyer Restaurant in Aberdeen for those who graduated between 1973 and 1977. To find out more or to book your place at one of these events please click here.
