UPDATE FROM THE STUDENT PRESIDENT

First of all wholehearted congratulations to all those graduating this week and the best of luck with whatever comes next for them.

It’s handover here in the Students’ Association with the new team of Sabbaticals just started, following their election earlier this year. I’m sure that the fresh perspective will be both exciting and challenging!

We’re also very proud to say that it was recently announced that our services and operations have been externally accredited under the Student Union Evaluation Initiative, a sector benchmark endorsed by the National Union of Students and both the Scottish and UK Governments. Prior to last month’s announcement only 11 other Student Associations or Unions had received the award, so we are very pleased.

Our Annual Fund Sports Clubs have had a very successful season, with 7 medals at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships, our Rugby Club winning the Scottish Universities League and most recently our Golf team achieving 4th in the World at the 2010 World Students Matchplay.

It’s also been a really good year for our Societies, supported once again by the Annual Fund, have also had a good year, with highlights including the UNYMSA Society winning an Edinburgh Model UN event.

We’ve also been continuing our campaigning recently on the cost and safety of student accommodation in the city and for lighting for the nearby Seaton Park, widely used by students getting home to the Hillhead residences.

As ever feel free to get in touch,

Robin
