UNIVERSITY EVENTS
The General Council Statutory Meeting - 7 December 2013
The University’s General Council, of which all graduates are automatically members, held its 300th Statutory Meeting on December 7th in the King’s College Conference Centre: the meetings, held in December and in May, are open to all General Council members. Principal Professor Sir Ian Diamond’s wide-ranging and very encouraging “state of the University” report noted University successes in inter-disciplinary activities such as the new Aberdeen Institute in Energy, partnerships with universities in China, Brazil, European and East African countries among others, while income and student entry numbers and rates continued to improve. His main aim was for a top-quality Student Experience and he referred to the introduction of Personal Tutors, student surveys, improved schedules for academic feedback, the Curriculum Reform programme (in which the first graduates would be seen next session and which has received UK-wide praise). He indicated that the University Court, at its meeting the following week, would consider a number of proposals for the next 10 year estates plan, possibilities including new Science facilities, a new Students’ Union on the current Students’ Association building in the former Butchart building. He also confirmed that the Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre, about which favourable feedback was already being received, was on schedule to open in early 2014.
